Collaborative Efforts by NGOs and Government to Tackle Bangladesh’s Ongoing Flood Crisis: Interim Government’s Initiative

On August 24, 2024, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, organized an important discussion meeting to address Bangladesh’s ongoing flood crisis. The meeting took place at the State Guest House, Jamuna, Dhaka, with leaders from 44 active NGOs involved in flood relief efforts present. Notable attendees included Rasheda K. Choudhury, Convenor of the CSO Alliance and Executive Director of Campaign for Popular Education, Asif Saleh, Executive Director of BRAC, and Syeed Ahamed, Coordinator of the CSO Alliance Secretariat and CEO of IID.
The meeting emphasized strengthening cooperation between the government and NGOs to deliver effective relief and rehabilitation services to flood-affected communities. Key topics discussed included establishing emergency shelters, restoring power in remote areas with support from the army and mobile operators, and addressing post-flood health issues and food shortages.
To advance flood relief efforts, a proposal for a Tk 1,000 crore fund was introduced, highlighting the importance of a collaborative approach between government officials, private organizations, and volunteers. This initiative reflects a united commitment to standing by those affected by the floods.
